Workshop Continues Malvolio's Story

The New York Classical Theatre in New York City will stage a workshop performance of Malvolio's Revenge, Feb. 10, a sneak preview of a traditional English panto the company is developing for a world-premiere production in 2014.

This new work is based entirely on Shakespeare's characters and takes place immediately after the end of Twelfth Night. In Shakespeare's play, Malvolio's exiting line is "I'll be revenged on the whole pack of you." In Malvolio's Revenge, we find out what he does with his yellow stockings.

New York Classical Theatre logoThe show will be done in panto form, a style of theater with a long tradition in England and still prevalent in theaters at Christmastime. Usually loosely based on a famous fairy tale or story, the English panto features lots of song and dance, audience participation, topical humor, and prominent cross-dressing.

This workshop production of Malvolio's Revenge will be staged at Ripley Grier Studios, 520 8th Avenue, New York. After a wine-and-cheese reception beginning at 6 p.m., the 60-minute show will start at 7p.m.

This is a benefit program for the New York Classical Theatre; donations are requested. RSVP by Feb. 4 to info@newyorkclassical.org or call 212-662-0760.
